Thanks. Our website is www.balanceinc.org. It needs some updates but it gives you some idea of what the organization does. We are working on increasing our involvement with self-directed supports especially with our supported living services. We have been doing quite a bit of private fundraising in order to develop this for those who aren't supported in that manner through the care management organizations.
We have our first meeting on Nov 15th with Iris to come up with a plan so I need to do my research of what is out there outside of the home. Have you heard of Life Academy out in West Allis on 117th and Cleveland in some church? Its thru MCFI not sure what these services cost and how it will work with my son still in high school. We plan on our 24 yr old nephew work with him in the home but want him to get out in the community and learn more like independently living and what will help him prepare him to more independent so he is not so dependent on adults. He is use to mom and dad doing everything for him and making his decisions. I did get full guardianship of him as well.
Deb - I am impressed - I have signed up for many websites & have NEVER had someone respond so quickly. I have tried calling IRIS all week and have been on hold forever... well at least until I had to hang up to get back to work. Here are the things I am looking for. Where can I find a template for the Individual Support & Service Plan, are there any resources available for the meaning of the Encounter Codes, are there any reference materials for the IRIS Consultants that give them Acronymns to use? My sister's consultant wrote her plan for her - then told her she had to sign it - then sent her a copy printed in such small print I can barely read it. How my sister is supposed to read it with vision problems is beyond me. Obviously she (we) are looking for a new Consultant - and I am writing out some goals for her to consider, Hopefully she will find one soon. Right now she has a plan that has money allocated to services already being covered by Medicare. Thanks for asking about our needs. I think the IRIS program looks like a very positive move for people with disabilities.
Thank you Deb, I just started and I want to know all the in's and out's about SDS. I am looking for more education with this field. I have a human services associate degree and would like to advance. I am 63 and looking for an easier job in this field. If you know anything that could help that would be great. I do like helping people ,just maybe less labor. Thank you Lynda
