A one-of-a-kind Film Festival that Arc Northland is bringing to the northland from New York City, NY will take place on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Teatro Zuccone, downtown Duluth, MN!

It is the Sprout Film Festival (www.gosprout.org) which includes independent films that either star or are created by individuals with developmental disabilities.

People with developmental disabilities as subjects and performers remain marginalized in the media.

The Sprout Film Festival aims to raise their profile by showcasing works of all genres featuring this population.

By presenting films of artistry and intellect, the festival hopes to reinforce accurate portrayals of people with developmental disabilities and expose the general public to important issues facing this population.

The goal is an enjoyable and enlightening experience that will help breakdown stereotypes, promoting a greater acceptance of differences and awareness of similarities.

Films have been selected by self-advocates from the People First Duluth, MN chapter and will be shown in two different screenings at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets will be $5 each or 2 (for each screening) for $8.

There will also be a collaborative art exhibit in the Teatro Atrium area featuring local artists with disabilities.
